A Review: The Paradise Snare

The Paradise Snare (Star Wars: The Han Solo Trilogy #1)

By A.C. Crispin
Publisher: Spectra
Copy: Physical Copy
Recommend: Yes
Re-Read: Yes
Genres: Sci-fi / Adventure / Media Tie In /

Summary: I can't give to much of a summary without spoiling the book. Just know that this book tells a lot about Solo's childhood and teenage years.

Thoughts: I have loved the character Han Solo since I first saw Star Wars. I have actually modeled a role playing character off of him. So yeah... If you are curious to learn more about Han this is a must read. I'll be reading the rest of the trilogy later in the year, in hopes to learn more about my favorite Star Wars character.

Second March update

Wolves of the Calla ~ 11%
The Ring of Solomon ~ 29%
Uprooted ~ 6%
The One That Got Away ~ 45%

I've been pretty focused on The One That Got Away because of the review by the end of the month. I should probably pick up Wolves of the Calla. The pre-processes for the move are going along. Only a little bit longer before we're confined to what we can bring in the car. Hopefully we figure it out and are good for at least the month of travel. Overall nothing much to say. Trying to read, organize and game at the same time.

A Review: Dark Places & Happy World Book Day!

Dark Places

By Gillian Flynn
Publisher: Broadway Books
Copy: Physical Copy
Recommend: Yes
Re-Read: Yes
Genres: Suspense / Mystery / Crime

Summary: Libby Day's family was massacred by her older brother, or so she believes. Almost 25 years later someone reaches out to her to see if she wants to know the truth. Will the truth make her happy? What will it do to her older brother Ben? Libby goes along with digging up the truth, and getting paid for it.

Thoughts: I really enjoy Gillian Flynn's writing style and how the book was broken up into chapters via the character view. A while back I listened to Gone Girl and so when I saw Dark Places at Target I had to get it. I'm glad that I did. It's dark, a bit twisted, has some interesting characters and the pace was just right. I really can't wait to get my hands on Sharp Objects. Just pick up a copy, you'll feel the pull of the story.

First week of March update

The Ring of Solomon ~13%
Wolves of the Calla The Dark Tower V ~7%
The One That Got Away ~13%
Uprooted -- Just started

So The One that Got Away is going to be interesting, I don't normally enjoy this genre and so far I'm not really all that into the book. I just hope I can get it read and reviewed by the end of the month since that's when the First to Read program would like it to be done. Uprooted is another arc so I put it on the list but I was just approved for it and I don't see a deadline to do a review by. I got Uprooted from the Edelweiss program, super excited to read this one.
There really isn't too much on the life side. Need to start getting ready for the move, need to finish the paperwork for the move and so forth.

The Last Safe Place: A Review

The Last Safe Place

By Ninie Hammon
Publisher: Ninie Hammon
Copy: E-book
Recommend: Not really
Re-Read: No
Genres: Mystery / Thriller

Summery: Can Gabriella Carmichael escape from the madman who believes that his is a character from her best selling book?

Thoughts: I'm not really sure what to say about this book. It seems to have some decent reviews but I sadly don't agree with them. I didn't find it creepy, thrilling or to have much of a mystery. I'm not actually sure why it's listed under mystery. The characters didn't have much development, the "chase" wasn't a chase and the ending was pretty predictable. I don't mind the good vs evil concept or the prey vs predator concept but this was just weak. I have to say that I am glad that this was a free book.

Last Update for February

Warriors ~ 90%
The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla ~ Just Started
Dark Places ~ Just Started

So I decided to put a hold on the ebooks. I only have a few more weeks before my physical books get packed up for the move, and who know how long it will take us to get another house. In theory it should only take a month or so, but you never know. I will probably work on the ebook that the First to Read program gave me, since they would like the review by the 31st of March. Other than that I don't really have much to say. We've been hunkering down and getting ready to leave. So fingers crossed we can get a bunch of stuff done this week.

A Review: Nefertiti's Heart

Nefertiti's Heart (Artifact Hunters #1)

By A. W. Exley
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Copy: e-book
Recommend: Yes
Re-Read: Maybe
Genres: Science Fiction / Fantasy / Crime / Romance / Steampunk

Summary: Cara Devon comes back to London after her father's untimely death to get all of the affairs straight. She just happens to come back during a time where the wealthy are having a killer among them. Is she willing to work with the Enforcer who seems to suspect her? Can she get over her distaste for London? Why does Viscount Lyons seem so interested in her?

Thoughts: So I will admit that I decided to read the book based off of the title and the cover. I will also admit that if I knew this was tucked under Romance I would have put it away. I tend not to enjoy sexy/sex scenes in books; they make me feel uncomfortable. Which is why the book is rated at a 3.5 out of 5. I enjoyed the characters, the setting and the overall story. I do understand why there was the sex scene but I don't think it added anything to the story and personally would have preferred it either shorter or not written. I will more than likely check out the rest of the series since it was a fun read for the most part, and it looks like I can get them through the prime library.
